Upload photos

Bulk upload your shots. Watermarking and face indexing happen automatically.

With a gallery created, you upload your photos into it. You can drop in hundreds at once, and Fotto handles the rest.

Uploading

  1. Open the gallery and use the upload zone. Drag photos in, or choose files, or choose a whole folder.
  2. JPEG and PNG only. Other formats (RAW, HEIC, and so on) are skipped, so export to JPEG first. Each file can be up to 60 MB.
  3. Keep the tab open while files are transferring. You can watch the progress, and pause and resume anytime. Once the transfer is done, it is safe to leave; processing continues on our side.

Limits

Storage is the only limit. There is no cap on how many photos you can put in a single event. Upload as many as your remaining space allows, whether that is all in one race or spread across several.

  • Free: 5 GB storage (roughly 1,000 photos)
  • Starter: 50 GB storage (roughly 10,000 photos)
  • Pro: 200 GB storage (roughly 40,000 photos)
  • Studio: 500 GB storage (roughly 100,000 photos)

Storage is your account total across every event. The photo estimates assume about 5 MB per file, so your own capacity depends on your camera settings. The GB figure is the real limit.

Your plan also sets how many events you can run at once: 1 on Free, 3 on Starter, 10 on Pro, and unlimited on Studio. Archiving an event frees a slot.

One event can hold at most 50,000 photos. This applies to every plan, Studio included: it is a technical ceiling, not a plan limit, so upgrading does not raise it. In practice only Studio has enough storage to reach it at all; on every other plan you run out of space long before. For scale, the largest event on Fotto so far is about 24,000 photos.

Note

Duplicates are skipped automatically, so if an upload is interrupted you can safely drag the same folder in again. Only the missing photos go up.

What happens after upload

Each photo is processed automatically:

  • a watermarked preview is made (buyers only ever see this),
  • the photo is indexed for face and bib search so runners can find themselves.

Photos move through uploaded, then processing, then ready. A few may show as failed if something went wrong. You do not need to re-upload them: use Retry failed in the upload zone, or Retry all failed on the manage screen. Processing can take a little while for a big gallery, so it is normal to see some still working right after upload.
